  • After 30 years of hair loss my first hair transplant with Dr Maral

    Hello all.
After decades of severe hair loss and all the negatives this affliction brings i finally found a clinic and Doctor that met all my needs. Technique, affordability, accessibility, openness to answer each and every question ect ect.
So on the 6th of march 2015 i flew to Istanbul,Turkey from Manchester.England with Turkish airlines great service and a very nice meal, I was met at the airport by the clinics driver holding a name board at the exit,It was rush hour on a Friday and the traffic was horrendous as it was convenient i went and met the good Dr at the clinic to discuss the following days procedure.
The clinic is impeccably clean and all the staff extremely welcoming and Dr Maral himself one of the nicest people I've met in nearly 50 years on this rock. We talked for about a hour then his driver took me to the hotel and again very clean and comfortable place with very good wifi in the room.
Next morning at roughly 9 o'clock clinics driver picks me up and takes me to the clinic were i spent another half a hour or so talking with the doc having photos taken hair line drawn and some medication,
Taken into room next door changed tops and head shaved then led down and had local anesthetic injections which was fine.
Extractions begin and go on for approx two and a half hours then donor area is cleaned and bandaged,Straight away anesthetic injections into recipient area then five minutes later incisions begin and go on for approximately 30-40 minutes then heads cleaned again and bandages applied leaving access to recipient area.
Nice lunch of Turkish meatballs then in to the most arduous part the implanting of the grafts which seems to go on for ever,When that's done head cleaned again and fresh bandage applied.Back in to talk to Dr again were he explains immediate post op care. Back to hotel and rest up until morning when i'm picked up again and taken to clinic for a talk with Dr about post op care and his overall assessment of the likely outcome based on my donor hair and graft count and placement and the loss area that needed addressing.
Back home now resting up doing fine at 6 days post op just a wait now but after decades 12 months is a blink of the eye in comparison
Overal the journey, procedure and recovery thus far was and is just as i expected.

Norwood 6-7 with salt n pepper hair which is quite fine,
4260 Grafts average 1.8 hairs per graft.
Cost 1900 euros which includes bed and breakfast at hotel-meals whilst at clinic-all transfers to and from airport to hotel-hotel to clinic-hotel to airport.
All medication travel pillow and post op shampoo and the procedure its self-As many grafts as is safe to extract whilst preserving donor appearance.
Flights from Manchester 220 uk pounds
This is purely for the benefit of other hair loss sufferers which will hopefully be of some help.
    Have a nice day all

Hi 1966, I think you are at waiting period now, what about your donor recovery/healing. I know some donor hairs may also go shock loss after transplant and donors may show some less density for 4-6 months, have your donors recovered well up to now?

Hello gravedigger I hope you are well.
I had as far as I could tell no shock loss of my donor area density. I did have and still have some irritation due to a minor infection I picked up post op due to sleeping with my head on a nylon covered travel pillow.
I woke the morning after I used it and my donor area was soaked in sweat. I also exposed the area to quite a lot of sun helping my wifes uncle which also probably added to the problem.I should of known better at my age but we all make mistakes till the day we die.
The infection is clearing up slowly with the use of nizoral shampoo every second day and TCP diluted 50/50.
The appearance of my donor area is exactly the same as before the ht so hopefully I will have enough donor density to allow me to have a second ht on the crown early next year.
        Have a good day

              Hello all.
Well finally got round to posting my 4 month photos.
As you can see from the ones taken under different lighting what a difference lighting makes to photos.
A month ago there was not really anything to see on the photos i took so i did not bother posting any for you to look at.
I think you will agree there is something to look at now.
Roll on 5 months so i can compare a months progress.
Sorry about the photo quality but im no expert and my camera is poor.
              Have a nice day..

Hello 1966, you are not a bald man anymore, promising beginning at that very early stage, what about donor recovery? - which is more important than hair growth at 4th month.

Hello mikrofue I hope you are well.
I believe my donor area is fine it does not feel any different to pre op.
I will take some photos of the donor area to show it now as I have just had it cut to a number one guard with clippers and the recipient with scissors to about half a inch.
A lot of new hair is invisible on the photographs but in certain light at certain angles its looking very promising for four months.
Once these invisible hair mature thicken and have colour its going to be so pleasing.
My wife is fascinated with the fue ht process how it looks so bad for a few months then all off a sudden it starts growing and improving week after week.
I will post some photos in a couple of hours of the donor area.
                  Have a nice day

As promised here is a photo of my donor and a front view after a hair cut ready for my annual holiday to Ireland on Tuesday.
The donor photo is at a number one guard on the clippers cut yesterday.
I will be letting it grow longer for the next few months updates.
I will update again at five months.
And yes mikro im no longer bald and even at this very early stage it feels so much better.
                    Have a good day everyone

                        Hello eurofue.
Make sure you take things to entertain yourself. A tablet or book or phone to occupie your time.
There's WiFi at the hotel so being online is a great source of entertainment but make sure you take your chargers and a adapter for the Turkish sockets.
Make sure you have your visa for entering Turkey because if you have to get one at the airport it will cost a awful lot and delay you at the airport and the driver may think you've missed your flight and leave.
If you have any questions private message me and I'll help if I can.
                        Have a nice day

Well here i am a few days short of six months post op and as a rule of thumb approximately 50%-60% of the final results.
It improves steadily week in week out but a long way to go yet.
As always apologies for the poor photo quality i need to get a new camera.
Happy to have hair up top again and obviously if i need the crown doing i will have to go and visit Dr Maral again.
                          Have a good day
